A Minute About your Life

vernongould11 | 02 February, 2012 06:41

Now the context about this statement is huge, because Jesus was speaking with these Pharisees and some other people. The Pharisees have been very, very legalistic and they had construct this intricate system of how to sidestep the truth. They didn’€™t want to tell the truth, so they began to swear by their bodies, swear by heaven, claim by earth, swear through the city of Jerusalem. Christ steps up and he says, ‘€œLet your yes be yes and your no be no. ‘€ Jesus said for a Christ-follower, our character ought to be so noble; our conversation should be so pristine and honest that when we say yes, people mean it. And once we say no, we mean it.

Think for a minute about your life over the last seven days. How so often have you said virtually no? Now think about the amount of times you’€™ve said without a doubt. I would argue that we should instead say a lot of nos caused by a bigger yes. Yes with zero fit together, so I’€™ve got to say no caused by a bigger yes.

I’€™ve got to say no to some things caused by a bigger yes regarding my own relationship with Jesus. I’€™ve got to say no to numerous things because of my own relationship with Lisa. I’€™ve got to say no to numerous things because of my own parenting skills and opportunities with my kids. I’€™ve got to say no to numerous stuff as a leader at Fellowship Church because of a bigger yes. So no can be a positive thing. We take into consideration no as a negative, but no is a confident. We say no caused by a bigger yes. ‘€œLet ones ‘€˜Yes’€™ be ‘€˜Yes, ‘€™’€ Jesus said, ‘€œand your ‘€˜No, ‘€™ ‘€˜No. ‘€™’€ It’€™s really interesting to peruse your pages of Scripture, just to consider all the different people, because so many of them said no. I’€™m talking about the ones who really were in the sweet spot of God’€™s success. Ed Young.
